# Apple iOS and macOS: crafted video file crashes apps via out-of-bounds write

A memory write past the end of a buffer occurs when Apple platforms process a maliciously crafted video file. The sources say the result is unexpected app termination, a crash.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the device or Mac OS version (for example `sw_vers` on macOS) against the fixed builds listed in the sources
- unknown for anything beyond the version comparison

## Fix

- Update iOS and iPadOS to `26.7.2` or `27.2`
- Update macOS Tahoe to `26.7.2`, macOS Sequoia to `15.8.2`, or macOS Golden Gate to `27.2`
- Update tvOS and visionOS to `27.2`

## Timeline

## From the sources

An out-of-bounds write issue was addressed with improved bounds checking. This issue is fixed in iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, tvOS 27.2, visionOS 27.2. Processing a maliciously crafted video file may lead to unexpected app termination.
