# Apple: out-of-bounds read in file processing crashes apps

An out-of-bounds memory read in Apple's operating systems lets a maliciously crafted file cause an app to terminate unexpectedly. The description reports only a crash, not code execution or data disclosure.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed OS version under Settings > General > About on iOS and iPadOS, or run `sw_vers` on macOS.
- Compare against the fixed versions: `26.7.2` for iOS, iPadOS, macOS Tahoe and macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, and `27.2` for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS Golden Gate and visionOS.

## Fix

- Update iOS and iPadOS to `26.7.2` or `27.2`.
- Update macOS Tahoe to `26.7.2`, macOS Sequoia to `15.8.2`, macOS Golden Gate to `27.2`, and visionOS to `27.2`.

## From the sources

An out-of-bounds read was addressed with improved bounds checking. This issue is fixed in iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, visionOS 27.2. Processing a maliciously crafted file may lead to unexpected app termination.
