# Netis EAP930 firmware: CGI debug endpoint backdoor reachable remotely

The Netis EAP930 access point's /cgi-bin/debug endpoint accepts a manipulated SIGNATURE argument that acts as a backdoor. An attacker who reaches the device over the network can likely bypass authentication and run commands on it.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the firmware version on the device (`1.250905.115454` is the affected build named in the advisory)
- Test whether the device answers requests to `/cgi-bin/debug` from untrusted networks
- unknown whether a specific check beyond these is supported by the sources

## Fix

- No vendor fix: the vendor did not respond to the disclosure, so the sources give no patched version
- Restrict access to the management interface and block `/cgi-bin/debug` from untrusted networks
- Replace the device if no update is available

## Timeline

## From the sources

A security vulnerability has been detected in Netis EAP930 1.250905.115454. This issue affects the function return200 of the file /cgi-bin/debug of the component CGI Endpoint. The manipulation of the argument SIGNATURE leads to backdoor. The attack may be initiated remotely. A high degree of complexity is needed for the attack. The exploitability is assessed as difficult. The vendor was contacted early about this disclosure but did not respond in any way.
