# Syncplify Server: SFTP users bypass folder permissions via case and 8.3 names

Syncplify Server before 8.8.0 lets an authenticated SFTP user evade per-path permission overrides by writing a protected directory name in different capitalization or as its 8.3 short name. The bypass allows uploads and downloads that the configured override is meant to block.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed Syncplify Server version in its admin console or install directory; the sources do not give a command.
- Review per-path permission overrides for protected folders and confirm whether any SFTP accounts can reach them.

## Fix

- Upgrade Syncplify Server to `8.8.0` or later.
- Unknown whether a configuration workaround exists; the sources do not say.

## From the sources

Syncplify Server! before 8.8.0 contains an access control bypass vulnerability that allows authenticated SFTP users to evade per-path permission overrides by exploiting case-insensitive filesystem path resolution and 8.3 short names. Attackers can address a protected directory using alternate capitalization or its 8.3 short name to perform file uploads and downloads that the configured override is intended to deny, resulting in unauthorized file access.
