# Sensei LMS WordPress plugin: subscribers can message any course author

The Sensei LMS WordPress plugin before 4.26.4 has a legacy message handler that checks only a generic nonce and skips course enrollment checks. An logged-in subscriber can send a private message to the author of any course, lesson or quiz they are not enrolled in.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed Sensei LMS version in the WordPress plugins screen or `wp plugin get sensei-lms --field=version`
- Confirm whether the legacy `save_new_message` handler exists in the plugin code (unknown whether the sources name a file path)

## Fix

- Update Sensei LMS to `4.26.4` or later
- unknown whether a non-patch workaround exists in the sources

## Timeline

- 2026-10-23T21:57:18+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-112329

## From the sources

The Sensei LMS WordPress plugin before 4.26.4 contains a broken access control vulnerability in the legacy save_new_message handler hooked on the init action, which validates only a generic nonce without verifying course enrollment or restricting post_id to valid post types. Authenticated attackers, including unprivileged Subscribers, can supply an arbitrary post_id for any course, lesson, or quiz to create a private message addressed to that post's author, bypassing the enrollment checks enforced by the newer REST send-message controller.
