# Download Monitor WordPress plugin: crafted link runs JavaScript in visitors' browsers

The Download Monitor WordPress plugin before 5.3.4 fetches a clicked link without checking it belongs to the site, then renders part of the response on the page. An unauthenticated attacker who tricks a user into clicking a crafted link can run arbitrary JavaScript in that user's browser.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed Download Monitor plugin version in the WordPress admin under Plugins, or with `wp plugin get download-monitor --field=version`
- unknown for other checks

## Fix

- Update the Download Monitor plugin to `5.3.4` or later
- unknown for other actions

## Timeline

- 2026-10-24T06:47:03+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-112207
- 2026-10-25T12:38:49+00:00 epss https://api.first.org/data/v1/epss?cve=CVE-2026-112207

## From the sources

The Download Monitor WordPress plugin before 5.3.4 does not properly validate that a clicked link belongs to the site before fetching it client-side and rendering part of the response in the page, which allows unauthenticated attackers to execute arbitrary JavaScript in the browser of any user who is tricked into clicking a crafted link.
