# NoviGest Desktop App: SAFT import lets crafted XML read local files

The SAFT import feature of the NoviGest Desktop App parses user-supplied XML with a JAXB Unmarshaller without disabling external entity resolution. A crafted XML file can make the application read files on the local machine that the app process can access.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check whether the NoviGest Desktop App is installed and which version is in use: unknown
- Check whether the SAFT import feature is used to open XML files from outside sources: unknown

## Fix

- Update the NoviGest Desktop App to a version that disables external entities in its XML parser: unknown
- Until a fix is applied, only import SAFT files from trusted sources: unknown

## Timeline

## From the sources

XML External Entity (XXE) injection vulnerability in the SAFT import feature of the NoviGest Desktop App. The application processes user-controlled XML files using a JAXB Unmarshaller without properly disabling external entity resolution. An attacker with access to this functionality could provide a manipulated XML file to read local files accessible to the application process. If the application runs with elevated privileges, sensitive system files could be exposed.
