# ProjectSend: path alias flaw lets staff delete other owners' files

ProjectSend 2.0.0 before 2.7.0 fails to validate paths in its orphan-file scanner, so a staff user with import_orphans permission can submit ./ path aliases. The attacker can delete or adopt files owned by other users, bypassing the delete_others_files permission.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed ProjectSend version in the admin panel or the project's version file; affected if it is `2.0.0` up to but not including `2.7.0`.
- Review which accounts have the import_orphans permission and whether they are staff who should not manage others' files.

## Fix

- Upgrade ProjectSend to `2.7.0` or later.
- Until upgraded, remove the import_orphans permission from non-essential staff accounts.

## Timeline

- 2026-10-23T21:57:15+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-112003

## From the sources

ProjectSend 2.0.0 before 2.7.0 contains a path validation flaw in OrphanFileScanner::isOrphan() that allows staff with import_orphans permission to treat tracked files as orphans. Attackers can submit ./ path aliases to the orphans import or delete endpoints, deleting or adopting other owners' files while bypassing delete_others_files.
