# Soarkey StudentManagement: login code stores passwords in cleartext locally

Soarkey StudentManagement's UserDao.login function in code/src/service/AdminDao.java handles the Password argument in a way that stores sensitive data in cleartext. A local user with access to the machine can read the stored passwords, and a public exploit has been published.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check whether the project is in use: search the codebase for `code/src/service/AdminDao.java` and look for `UserDao.login`.
- Confirm the deployed commit: compare against `e08f7f1d5015af407aa4cca0ada3dea189b4937e`, the last affected version listed by the sources.

## Fix

- unknown: the project has not responded to the report and the sources list no patched version. Restrict local file access to the application's data, and avoid reusing these passwords elsewhere.

## Timeline

## From the sources

A flaw has been found in Soarkey StudentManagement up to e08f7f1d5015af407aa4cca0ada3dea189b4937e. Impacted is the function UserDao.login of the file code/src/service/AdminDao.java. This manipulation of the argument Password causes cleartext storage of sensitive information. The attack is restricted to local execution. The exploit has been published and may be used. The project was informed of the problem early through an issue report but has not responded yet.
