# Royal MCP WordPress plugin: preview token grants full administrator access

The Royal MCP WordPress plugin before 1.5.7 does not restrict a preview-link token to the one preview it was issued for. Anyone holding a valid token is authenticated as the token's owner, typically an administrator, across the whole REST API, which allows full site takeover.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed Royal MCP plugin version in the WordPress admin plugins list or with `wp plugin get royal-mcp --field=version` (version is unknown from sources; slug assumed)
- Confirm whether the site has the plugin active with `wp plugin is-active royal-mcp`

## Fix

- Update the Royal MCP plugin to `1.5.7` or later
- If the plugin cannot be updated, deactivate it until it is patched
- Rotate any preview-link tokens and administrator credentials if the site was exposed

## Timeline

- 2026-10-24T07:15:52+00:00 epss https://api.first.org/data/v1/epss?cve=CVE-2026-111958

## From the sources

The Royal MCP WordPress plugin before 1.5.7 does not limit a preview-link token to the single preview it was issued for, so any party that obtains a valid token is authenticated as the token's owning user, an administrator in the default configuration, across the entire REST API with no nonce, leading to full site takeover.
