# Helical Insight: path traversal lets authenticated viewers read arbitrary files

Helical Insight through 7.0.0 fails to restrict the path parameter of /getExternalResource, so parent-directory segments escape the solution directory. An authenticated viewer can read any readable file with an allowed extension such as js, json or html, bypassing per-resource access control.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed Helical Insight version; the sources say versions through 7.0.0 are affected
- unknown whether a specific configuration or file list is needed to confirm exposure

## Timeline

- 2026-10-23T21:57:13+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-111635

## From the sources

Helical Insight through 7.0.0 contains a path traversal vulnerability that allows authenticated viewers to read files outside the solution directory via the path parameter of /getExternalResource. Attackers can supply parent-directory segments to read any readable file with an allowed extension such as js, json, or html, bypassing per-resource access control.
