# Prime Slider WordPress plugin: stored XSS via comment parameter

The Prime Slider Elementor addons plugin for WordPress up to and including 4.7.2 fails to sanitize the 'comment' parameter, so unauthenticated attackers can store script that runs in the browser of anyone who views the injected page. A bypass in the plugin's regex fallback lets event-handler attributes such as onfocus survive sanitization.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed Prime Slider plugin version in the WordPress admin plugins list or with `wp plugin get prime-slider --field=version`
- Unknown whether the sources list a specific comment-related setting that enables the flaw

## Fix

- Update the Prime Slider plugin to a version later than `4.7.2`; the exact fixed version is unknown from the sources
- Until patched, disable the plugin or the comment-handling feature if it is not needed

## Timeline

## From the sources

The Prime Slider – Hero Slider, Carousel, WooCommerce & Post Slider Elementor Addons plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'comment' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 4.7.2 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This is possible because core wp_filter_kses leaves the submitted markup inert, but the plugin's subsequent regex fallback consumes closing quotes of allowed attribute values containing 'bdt-', promoting previously inert bytes — such as event handlers like onfocus — into real HTML attributes that are then written to the database and rendered without further sanitization.
