# A vulnerability has been identified in Siemens Software Center (All versions < V4.0.9.8)

Siemens Software Center before 4.0.9.8 loads DLLs from its own folder without checking them (CWE-427). Attackers in the Romulus ClickFix campaign are shipping a genuine signed SiemensSoftwareCenter.exe with malicious DLLs beside it, often in AppData\Local\Programs, so it works as a trusted loader. Siemens rates it CVSS v4 8.4 and v3.1 6.7. CISA added it to KEV on 2026-10-20, due 2026-11-03.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:Siemens Software Center affected < 4.0.9.8 fixed 4.0.9.8
- vendor:Siemens Software Center affected ? fixed ?

## How to check

Check the installed Software Center version: anything below 4.0.9.8 is affected. Hunt for SiemensSoftwareCenter.exe running from AppData\Local\Programs or started by msiexec; a folder 'SM Software Provisioning Service' in AppData\Local\Programs; activate.bak or statinfosta.DB next to the exe; an AppData\Local\FTSuite folder containing ftc.uml; unexpected DLLs beside Software Center executables outside the default install folder; connections to 96.62.218.59, wizardexpensive.com or 2.27.248.127. Hashes: AllMyBasic.msi f4d7c5321bb0d1bda439304a753bcf9b467b98ca53c7e9493b9c2c3451092e4a; archive.dll 3fdcc7d7d049a89711fb31fb236940a1c5a09d899143ffd20c3c41fb1f2cf491.

## Fix

Update to Siemens Software Center 4.0.9.8 or later; installs update automatically on next launch. Download Siemens software only from official sources, and block the IOCs above. If you find signs of compromise, isolate the PC, stop the process, remove the start-up entry and scheduled task, and reset passwords.

## From the sources

Siemens Software Center contains an uncontrolled search path element vulnerability that could allow an authenticated local attacker to place a specially crafted DLL in a directory that the application searches, leading to arbitrary code execution with the privileges of the affected application.

CISA required action: Apply mitigations in accordance with vendor instructions, ensuring compliance with CISA’s BOD 26-04 Prioritizing Security Updates Based on Risk (see URL in Notes) guidance and CISA’s “Forensics Triage Requirements” (see URL in Notes). Follow applicable BOD 26-04 guidance for cloud services or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable. Stakeholders are responsible for evaluating each asset's internet exposure and ensuring adherence to BOD 26-04 patching guidelines.
