# Collabora CODE server in Nextcloud: command injection enables remote code execution

The built-in CODE server used by the Nextcloud richdocumentscode app contains an OS command injection flaw. When the CODE server is not running, a remote attacker can execute commands on the host.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:Collabora Collabora Online – Built-in CODE Server affected ? fixed ?

## How to check

- Check whether the Nextcloud richdocumentscode app is installed and which version it is, e.g. `occ app:list | grep richdocumentscode`
- Check whether the built-in CODE server is in use, e.g. `unknown`

## Fix

- Update the richdocumentscode app (Collabora Online Built-in CODE Server) to `26.4.303` or later
- Follow CISA BOD 26-04 guidance and vendor instructions for mitigations; the sources give no other steps

## From the sources

Collabora Collabora Online – Built-in CODE Server when used within the NextCloud platform contains an OS command injection vulnerability that allows for remote code execution when the CODE server isn't running.

CISA required action: Apply mitigations in accordance with vendor instructions, ensuring compliance with CISA’s BOD 26-04 Prioritizing Security Updates Based on Risk (see URL in Notes) guidance and CISA’s “Forensics Triage Requirements” (see URL in Notes). Follow applicable BOD 26-04 guidance for cloud services or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable. Stakeholders are responsible for evaluating each asset's internet exposure and ensuring adherence to BOD 26-04 patching guidelines.
