# weForms WordPress plugin: unauthenticated attackers can delete arbitrary media files

The weForms contact form builder plugin for WordPress up to and including 1.6.28 does not validate file paths when deleting entry attachments. An unauthenticated attacker can make an administrator delete a poisoned form entry and thereby remove arbitrary media files from the server.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed weForms version in the WordPress admin plugin list or with `wp plugin get weforms --field=version`
- Confirm whether the site has weForms active with `wp plugin is-active weforms`

## Fix

- Update the weForms plugin to a version later than `1.6.28` (the fixed version is unknown from the sources)

## Timeline

- 2026-10-23T21:57:14+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-110253

## From the sources

The weForms – Easy Drag & Drop Contact Form Builder For WordPress plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to limited media file deletion due to insufficient file path validation in the weforms_delete_entry_attachments function in all versions up to, and including, 1.6.28 This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to delete arbitrary media files on the server. This requires an administrator to permanently delete the poisoned form entry, a routine moderation action for spam-looking submissions that an attacker can prompt through social engineering.
