# Squeeze WordPress plugin: subscribers can delete attachment backups and WebP files

The Squeeze plugin before 1.8.1 has an AJAX action with no capability check, so any logged-in user, even a Subscriber, can revert attachments to their backup copy. The same action lets them permanently delete those backups and the plugin's generated WebP images, regardless of who owns the attachment.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed Squeeze plugin version in the WordPress admin Plugins screen or with `wp plugin get squeeze --field=version`
- Review whether user self-registration is enabled so that low-privilege accounts can exist

## Fix

- Update the Squeeze plugin to `1.8.1` or later
- Review user roles and remove unneeded accounts if the plugin is not updated yet

## Timeline

- 2026-10-23T21:57:12+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-110029

## From the sources

The Squeeze WordPress plugin before 1.8.1 does not perform a capability check on one of its AJAX actions, allowing authenticated users with a role as low as Subscriber to revert any attachment to its backup copy and to permanently delete that backup and the plugin's generated WebP derivatives, regardless of ownership.
