# Apache OFBiz: order return flaw lets a low-privilege user alter another party's order items

In Apache OFBiz 24.09 before 24.09.08, the createReturnItem service does not check that an OrderItem belongs to the caller, so an authenticated user with Order Manager access can attach another party's order item to a return they control. The sources do not describe data exposure beyond this unauthorized association.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed OFBiz version and whether it is `24.09` earlier than `24.09.08`.
- Confirm whether users with the Order Manager role can reach the returns screens or the `createReturnItem` service.

## Fix

- Apache OFBiz `24.09.08` or later, per the sources.

## Timeline

- 2026-11-05T14:39:17+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-109837

## From the sources

Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key in Order Returns in Apache OFBiz 24.09 before 24.09.08 on all platforms allows an authenticated user with low-privileged Order Manager access to associate another party's OrderItem with a ReturnItem on a ReturnHeader they control, via the createReturnItem service. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue.
