# HivePress WordPress plugin: stored XSS via message parameter

The HivePress business directory plugin for WordPress fails to sanitize the 'message' parameter, so a logged-in subscriber can store a script that runs in other users' browsers. The script runs when a user views the injected page, including at login through the embedded form on the attacker's listing page.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed HivePress version in the WordPress plugins screen or the plugin header of `hivepress/hivepress.php`; versions up to and including `1.7.32` are affected
- Confirm whether user listing submission is enabled in the HivePress settings

## Fix

- Update HivePress to a version newer than `1.7.32`; the sources do not name the fixed version
- unknown

## Timeline

## From the sources

The HivePress – Business Directory, Listings & Classified Ads Plugin plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'message' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 1.7.32 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Exploitation requires that the site administrator has enabled user listing submission, and the script executes in the victim's browser at the moment of successful login via the embedded form on the attacker's listing page.
