# LiteSpeed Cache for WordPress: stored script injection via bbPress reply content

The LiteSpeed Cache WordPress plugin fails to sanitize the 'bbp_reply_content' parameter, so a logged-in subscriber can store script that runs for anyone who opens the affected page. Exploitation additionally requires Viewport Images enabled with a matching filename and bbPress replies that allow raw img tags.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed LiteSpeed Cache plugin version in the WordPress admin Plugins screen; the sources say versions up to and including `7.9.1` are affected.
- Check whether Viewport Images (VPI) is enabled in the LiteSpeed Cache settings.
- Check whether bbPress lets subscribers post replies with raw img tags.

## Fix

- LiteSpeed Cache: versions up to and including `7.9.1` are affected; the sources do not state a fixed version.

## Timeline

## From the sources

The LiteSpeed Cache plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'bbp_reply_content' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 7.9.1 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Exploitation requires that an administrator has enabled Viewport Images (VPI) and configured a VPI filename that matches an image the attacker can embed in user-generated content — such as a bbPress topic where Subscriber-level Participants are permitted to post replies containing raw img tags.
