# Apache Cocoon: SQL injection via SQL processor and logicsheets, no fix

Apache Cocoon fails to sanitize input passed through its SQL processor and sql:/esql: logicsheets, so an attacker can inject arbitrary SQL. The project is retired and no fixed release will be published.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check whether Apache Cocoon is deployed anywhere, for example by searching the application for `cocoon` in its libraries or web configuration.
- Check whether the SQL processor or the `sql:` and `esql:` logicsheets are used in the pipelines.

## Fix

- No fixed version will be released; move off Apache Cocoon to a maintained alternative.
- Until then, restrict access to the instance to trusted users only.

## Timeline

## From the sources

** UNSUPPORTED WHEN ASSIGNED ** Improper neutralization of special elements used in an SQL command ('SQL injection') vulnerability in Apache Cocoon.

This issue affects Apache Cocoon: all versions.

Missing input sanitation would allow arbitrary SQL injection through the SQL processor or sql:/esql: logicsheets.

As this project is retired, we do not plan to release a version that fixes this issue. Users are recommended to find an alternative or restrict access to the instance to trusted users.

NOTE: This vulnerability only affects products that are no longer supported by the maintainer.
