# CatFolders WordPress plugin: missing authorization lets subscribers reset folder ownership

The CatFolders WordPress plugin before 2.5.7 has a folder maintenance action with no authorization check. Any logged-in user with the subscriber role can reset per-user ownership of every media folder and disable the plugin's user restriction setting.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed CatFolders version in the WordPress admin plugins list or in `wp plugin get catfolders --field=version`
- Confirm whether open user registration allows subscriber accounts on the site

## Fix

- CatFolders `2.5.7` and later (the sources state the plugin is fixed before 2.5.7)

## Timeline

- 2026-11-05T06:31:51+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-107787

## From the sources

The CatFolders WordPress plugin before 2.5.7 does not have authorisation checks on a folder maintenance action, allowing users with a role as low as subscriber to reset the per-user ownership of every media folder and disable the CatFolders WordPress plugin before 2.5.7's user restriction setting.
