# CatFolders WordPress plugin: sort setting enables SQL injection by authors

The CatFolders WordPress plugin before 2.5.7 passes a user-controlled sort setting into a SQL query without sanitizing it. An authenticated user with upload capability, such as an Author, can inject SQL to read or alter site database contents.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed CatFolders plugin version in the WordPress admin Plugins screen or `wp plugin get catfolders --field=version`
- Review which accounts hold the Author role or higher on the site

## Fix

- CatFolders plugin: `2.5.7` or later (per the CVE description, versions before 2.5.7 are affected)

## Timeline

- 2026-11-05T06:31:51+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-107786

## From the sources

The CatFolders WordPress plugin before 2.5.7 does not properly sanitize and escape a user-controlled sort setting before using it in a SQL query, allowing authenticated users with upload capability (Author and above) to perform SQL injection attacks.
