# TranslatePress WordPress plugin: unauthenticated stored XSS via comment parameter

The TranslatePress WordPress plugin up to and including 3.3.7 does not sanitize the 'comment' parameter or escape its output. An unauthenticated attacker can store scripts that run in the browser of any visitor who opens the injected page.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed TranslatePress version in the WordPress admin plugins list or with `wp plugin get translatepress-multilingual --field=version`
- Check whether unmoderated comments are allowed and a secondary language is configured in the TranslatePress settings

## Fix

- Update TranslatePress – Translate Multilingual sites with AI Translation to a version later than `3.3.7`; the fixed version is unknown from the sources
- Until updated, require comment moderation or disable anonymous comments

## Timeline

## From the sources

The TranslatePress – Translate Multilingual sites with AI Translation plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'comment' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 3.3.7 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Exploitation requires the target site to allow unmoderated comment submission on at least one post and to have a secondary language configured — both conditions reflect TranslatePress's primary use case.
