# Unauthenticated remote resource exhaustion causes denial of service in unnamed product

Unauthenticated remote DoS in gocsaf csaf_provider (the CSAF advisory-publishing web service): requests cause uncontrolled resource allocation and high CPU load (CWE-770). Versions up to and including 3.6.0 are affected; 3.7.0 fixes it. The other gocsaf tools (aggregator, checker, downloader, uploader, validator) are not affected. Reported by github.com/kta1kri.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- go:csaf_provider affected >= 0.0.0, <= 3.6.0 fixed 3.7.0

## How to check

Run csaf_provider --version, or check the go module github.com/gocsaf/csaf version in go.mod or the deployed binary. Any version <= 3.6.0 is affected. Only matters if csaf_provider is network-reachable.

## Fix

Update csaf_provider to 3.7.0 or later. As an interim measure, rate-limit or restrict access to the provider endpoint at the reverse proxy (my suggestion, not from the vendor).

## Timeline

- 2026-10-24T00:27:51+00:00 analyst — Product identified as gocsaf csaf_provider via CVE record and the vendor's CSAF VEX gocsaf-2026-001 (read). Fixed in 3.7.0. No exploitation or PoC found; no social search done (niche product).

## From the sources

An unauthenticated remote attacker may use an allocation of resources without limits or throttling weakness in the affected product to cause high CPU load leading to a denial of service.
