# Nil-pointer dereference in GetSlicers when a worksheet has extLst present but no drawing element in github.com/xuri/excelize

Excelize, a Go library for reading and writing Excel files, panics on a crafted spreadsheet when GetSlicers is called. An attacker who supplies such a file can crash any unprotected process that parses it.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- go:github.com/xuri/excelize/v2 affected >= 2.9.0, < 2.11.1-0.20260929015830-8ffeb07ec9a3 fixed 2.11.1-0.20260929015830-8ffeb07ec9a3

## How to check

Check whether go.mod pins github.com/xuri/excelize/v2 between v2.9.0 and v2.11.0 by running: go list -m github.com/xuri/excelize/v2
Search the codebase for calls to GetSlicers on files from untrusted sources.

## Fix

Upgrade to github.com/xuri/excelize/v2 v2.11.1-0.20260929015830-8ffeb07ec9a3 or later, per the sources' fixed version.
If no upgrade is possible, stop calling GetSlicers on untrusted workbooks; the sources say no fixed release existed at review time for some versions.

## From the sources

Excelize is a Go language library for reading and writing Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. From 2.9.0 to 2.11.0, GetSlicers checks for ExtLst but dereferences ws.Drawing without checking whether the independently optional drawing element exists. File.GetSlicers reads ws.Drawing.RID after seeing a worksheet extLst element even when the independently optional worksheet drawing element is absent. When a crafted worksheet contains an extLst element without a drawing element and the application calls GetSlicers, the nil ws.Drawing pointer is dereferenced while resolving the drawing relationship, allowing an attacker to panic and terminate an unprotected process. No fixed version is available as of this review.
