# RTIR: ticket subject renders unescaped, letting email senders run scripts

RTIR's ticket split and incident creation forms display the subject of the related ticket without HTML escaping. A script placed in that subject runs in the session of the handler who opens the form, so it can act in RT with that user's authority.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed RTIR version, for example with `rtir --version` or the RTIR package metadata in your RT installation.
- Confirm whether the RTIR ticket creation forms are reachable from incoming emailed reports.

## Fix

- RTIR: upgrade to `6.0.4`.
- RTIR 5.0 is not affected.

## Timeline

- 2026-10-30T16:31:25+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-105455

## From the sources

RTIR's ticket creation forms show the subject of the related
ticket when splitting a ticket or creating an incident from a
report, and they render that subject without HTML escaping. A
ticket subject containing script runs it when a user opens either
form. RTIR grants everyone the right to create Incident Reports by
default, so an unauthenticated sender of an emailed report can set
that subject. The script then runs in the session of the incident
handler who creates an incident from the report or splits it, and
can act in RT with that user's authority.

The issue was fixed in version 6.0.4. RTIR 5.0 is not
      affected.
