# JetBackup WordPress plugin: crafted backup archive writes files outside restore folder

The JetBackup plugin for WordPress before 3.1.24.10 follows symbolic links inside imported or restored backup archives without checking where they point. A WordPress administrator can use a crafted archive to write attacker-chosen content to arbitrary server paths, which can lead to code execution depending on the writable location and server setup.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

Check the installed JetBackup plugin version in the WordPress admin plugin list or in the plugin's main file header; versions below 3.1.24.10 are affected.

## Fix

Update the JetBackup plugin to 3.1.24.10 or later.

## From the sources

JetBackup plugin for WordPress before 3.1.24.10 contains a symlink-based arbitrary file write vulnerability that allows an authenticated WordPress administrator to write attacker-controlled file contents outside the intended restore destination during backup import and restore. Attackers can craft a backup archive containing a symbolic link that archive extraction follows without validating targets or enforcing destination containment, potentially leading to server-side code execution depending on the writable destination and server configuration.
