# Scribus: crafted PSD file corrupts memory, enabling code execution

Scribus, a desktop page layout program, has a heap out-of-bounds write in its PSD image loader because it uses unchecked values from the file as array indexes. A user who opens or imports a crafted PSD file can crash Scribus or potentially run code as that user.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Run Scribus and check its version under Help > About; unknown if the sources give a specific command.
- Check whether the installed version is earlier than `1.6.7`.

## Fix

- Scribus: move to `1.6.7` or later.

## Timeline

- 2026-10-30T16:31:24+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-104061

## From the sources

Scribus before 1.6.7 contains a heap out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the scimgdataloader_psd loader that uses unchecked PSD file values as lookup array indexes. Attackers can convince users to place or import a crafted PSD file to corrupt heap memory, causing crashes and potentially code execution as the user.
