# Media Library Assistant WordPress plugin: reflected XSS via search-string parameter

The Media Library Assistant plugin for WordPress reflects the search-string parameter into pages without proper sanitization or escaping, in all versions up to and including 3.42. An unauthenticated attacker can get scripts to run in a visitor's browser if they trick that user into clicking a crafted link.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed version of the Media Library Assistant plugin in the WordPress admin plugins list, or look for `media-library-assistant` under `wp-content/plugins/`
- Search site pages for the `[mla_gallery]` shortcode with pagination and an `mla_link_href` template containing `{+request:` tokens

## From the sources

The Media Library Assistant plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Reflected Cross-Site Scripting via the 'search-string' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 3.42 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that execute if they can successfully trick a user into performing an action such as clicking on a link. Exploitation requires the targeted site to have a publicly accessible page containing an [mla_gallery] shortcode configured with a pagination output mode and an mla_link_href template that reflects a {+request:...+} token, along with enough attachments to trigger pagination.
