# MySQL Server and Cluster: high-privilege user can crash the server

A flaw in the MySQL Server Encryption component lets a highly privileged user over the network hang or repeatedly crash MySQL Server and MySQL Cluster. The result is a denial of service, with no data read or changed according to the CVSS vector.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Run `SELECT VERSION();` on each MySQL Server and check whether it is `26.7.0` or `26.7.1`
- For MySQL Cluster, check the version of the management and data nodes with `ndb_mgm -e show`
- unknown for whether the Encryption component is in use in your setup

## Fix

- Move MySQL Server to a release newer than `26.7.1` once Oracle publishes the fixed build (check the Oracle Critical Patch Update advisory)
- Move MySQL Cluster to a release newer than `26.7.1` on the same schedule
- unknown for a fixed version number, the sources do not give one

## From the sources

Vulnerability in the MySQL Server, MySQL Cluster product of Oracle MySQL (component: Server: Security: Encryption). Supported versions that are affected are MySQL Server: 26.7.0-26.7.1; MySQL Cluster: 26.7.0-26.7.1. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows high privileged attacker with network access via multiple protocols to compromise MySQL Server, MySQL Cluster. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized ability to cause a hang or frequently repeatable crash (complete DOS) of MySQL Server, MySQL Cluster. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 4.9 (Availability impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H).
