# MySQL Cluster NDB Operator: low-privilege HTTP request can crash the cluster

A flaw in the NDB Operator component of MySQL Cluster 9.7.3 lets a low-privileged user reach the service over HTTP. An attacker can cause a hang or a repeatable crash, which takes the cluster down (denial of service).

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Run `mysqld --version` or `ndb_mgm --version` and compare against the fixed release in the advisory.
- Check whether the NDB Operator (Kubernetes operator for MySQL Cluster) is deployed and reachable over HTTP.

## Fix

- Upgrade MySQL Cluster to a patched release listed in Oracle's Critical Patch Update for the quarter; the sources do not name the fixed version.
- Restrict HTTP access to the NDB Operator to trusted networks until patched.

## From the sources

Vulnerability in the MySQL Cluster product of Oracle MySQL (component: Cluster: NDB Operator). The supported version that is affected is 9.7.3. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows low privileged attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise MySQL Cluster. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized ability to cause a hang or frequently repeatable crash (complete DOS) of MySQL Cluster. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 6.5 (Availability impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H).
