# Helidon: CORS component flaw lets unauthenticated remote attackers alter data

A flaw in the helidon-cors component of Oracle's Helidon Java framework lets an unauthenticated attacker over HTTP read and modify some data the application can access. The sources say the impact can extend beyond Helidon to other products (scope change).

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the Helidon version in the project's dependency file (for example `pom.xml` or `build.gradle`) for the `io.helidon` artifacts
- Confirm whether the `helidon-cors` module is on the classpath (unknown if the sources list the exact check)

## Fix

- Move Helidon to a release newer than `3.2.21` (the sources list 3.0.0 through 3.2.21 as affected; the fixed version is unknown from these sources)
- Check Oracle's Critical Patch Update advisory for the patched release number (unknown from these sources)

## Timeline

## From the sources

Vulnerability in the Helidon product of Oracle Fusion Middleware (component: helidon-cors). Supported versions that are affected are 3.0.0-3.2.21. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Helidon. While the vulnerability is in Helidon, attacks may significantly impact additional products (scope change). Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Helidon accessible data as well as unauthorized read access to a subset of Helidon accessible data. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 7.2 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N).
