# MySQL Cluster InnoDB flaw lets physical attackers crash the database

A flaw in the InnoDB storage component of MySQL Cluster versions 8.0.0 through 8.0.37 can be used to cause a hang or repeatable crash. The attacker needs physical access and high privileges, and the impact is denial of service only.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Run `mysql -V` or `SELECT VERSION();` and compare against the affected range 8.0.0 to 8.0.37
- Confirm whether the deployment runs the MySQL Cluster (NDB) product, which the advisory names

## Fix

- Upgrade MySQL Cluster to a release after `8.0.37` per Oracle's Critical Patch Update for the relevant quarter

## Timeline

## From the sources

Vulnerability in the MySQL Cluster product of Oracle MySQL (component: InnoDB). Supported versions that are affected are 8.0.0-8.0.37. Difficult to exploit vulnerability allows physical access to compromise MySQL Cluster. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized ability to cause a hang or frequently repeatable crash (complete DOS) of MySQL Cluster. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 3.8 (Availability impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:P/AC:H/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H).
