# Oracle REST Data Services: unauthenticated request lets attackers read and change some data

Oracle REST Data Services, in its Backend-as-a-Service component, has a flaw that lets an unauthenticated attacker reach it over HTTP. A successful attack gives partial read access and partial insert, update and delete access to data the service exposes, and needs a second person to act.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed Oracle REST Data Services version against the affected range `24.2.0` to `26.1.0`
- Confirm whether the Backend-as-a-Service feature is enabled on the instance (unknown from sources)

## Fix

- Move Oracle REST Data Services to a version outside `24.2.0` to `26.1.0` (the patched version is unknown from sources; check the Oracle Critical Patch Update advisory)

## Timeline

## From the sources

Vulnerability in Oracle REST Data Services (component: Backend-as-a-Service). Supported versions that are affected are 24.2.0-26.1.0. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle REST Data Services. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle REST Data Services accessible data as well as unauthorized read access to a subset of Oracle REST Data Services accessible data. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 5.4 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N).
