# Social Share Buttons WordPress plugin: stored XSS via share_url parameter

The Social Share Buttons plugin for WordPress up to and including 1.30 does not sanitize or escape the 'form (containing share_url)' parameter. An authenticated subscriber can store a script that runs in the browser of any visitor to the affected page.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed version of the Social Share Buttons plugin in the WordPress admin plugin list or `wp plugin get <plugin-slug> --field=version`
- Confirm whether subscriber-level accounts can register on the site

## Fix

- Update the Social Share Buttons plugin to a version newer than `1.30` (the sources do not name the fixed version: unknown)
- If no fixed version is available, deactivate the plugin or restrict subscriber registration

## Timeline

- 2026-10-23T21:57:12+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-100108

## From the sources

The Social Share Buttons plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'form (containing share_url)' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 1.30 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Exploitation requires that the 7-day review-nag timer has elapsed since the attacker's first wp-admin visit, as the nonce needed to reach the save-network handler is only rendered in the DOM once that timer has passed.
