# JupyterLab Desktop for macOS: local code can inherit granted file-access permissions

Link for people: https://infrastack.ai/live/CVE-2025-54991 (this .md is for agents)

JupyterLab Desktop for macOS declared an entitlement that let the dynamic linker load arbitrary libraries via DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES despite the hardened runtime. A local attacker who can already run code as the user can inject a library into the app and inherit its macOS privacy permissions for Documents, Desktop, or Downloads without a new prompt.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed JupyterLab Desktop version on macOS; versions before `4.6.2-1` are affected.
- Look for the `com.apple.security.cs.allow-dyld-environment-variables` entitlement on the app bundle, for example with `codesign -d --entitlements - /Applications/JupyterLab.app` (command is an illustration; unknown whether sources define it).

## Fix

- JupyterLab Desktop: upgrade to `4.6.2-1`.

## From the sources

JupyterLab Desktop is the cross-platform desktop application for JupyterLab. Prior to 4.6.2-1, JupyterLab Desktop for macOS declared the com.apple.security.cs.allow-dyld-environment-variables entitlement, allowing the dynamic linker to honor DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES despite the hardened runtime. An attacker who can already execute code as the current user can load an arbitrary dynamic library into the JupyterLab Desktop process and inherit TCC permissions previously granted to the application, including access to protected Documents, Desktop, or Downloads folders without another macOS prompt. Exploitation requires existing local code execution and prior TCC grants; it does not provide initial or remote code execution. Windows and Linux are not affected. This vulnerability is fixed in 4.6.2-1.
