# External control of file name or path in Internet Shortcut Files allows an unauthorized attacker to execute code…

Windows can be tricked into running code from a remote WebDAV share named in the WorkingDirectory attribute of an Internet Shortcut (.url) file. An attacker who gets a victim to open such a shortcut can run code on the victim's machine.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## From the sources

Microsoft Windows contains an external control of file name or path vulnerability that could allow an attacker to execute code from a remote WebDAV location specified by the WorkingDirectory attribute of Internet Shortcut files.

CISA required action: Apply mitigations per vendor instructions, follow applicable BOD 22-01 guidance for cloud services, or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable.
