# CGM CLININET: cgm-updater listens on open network port without authentication

The CGM CLININET application runs a cgm-updater process that listens on a network port with no authentication. An attacker who can reach that port may be able to interact with the updater without credentials.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Identify whether the CGM CLININET application is installed and whether `cgm-updater` is running.
- Check which ports the `cgm-updater` process listens on, for example with `ss -tlnp` or `netstat -tlnp`, and whether they are reachable from the network.
- Confirm the installed CLININET version; the sources say versions up to `2026.MS3` were confirmed affected.

## Fix

- Upgrade CGM CLININET to a version later than `2026.MS3` once the vendor publishes a fixed release (unknown from sources).
- Restrict network access to the cgm-updater port with a host firewall so only trusted hosts can connect.
- Contact the vendor CGM for the official fix (unknown from sources).

## From the sources

The CGM CLININET application runs the cgm-updater process listening on an open network port without any authentication.

The vulnerability was confirmed to affect versions up to 2026.MS3 but later versions may also be vulnerable.
