# External control of file name or path in Windows NTLM allows an unauthorized attacker to perform spoofing over a network

A flaw in Windows NTLM lets an unauthorized attacker on the network spoof a victim and capture NTLM hash material. The attacker can use the captured hashes to impersonate the user against other services.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## From the sources

Microsoft Windows NTLM contains an external control of file name or path vulnerability that allows an unauthorized attacker to perform spoofing over a network.

CISA required action: Apply mitigations per vendor instructions, follow applicable BOD 22-01 guidance for cloud services, or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable.
