# VMware ESXi, Workstation, and Fusion contain an information disclosure vulnerability due to an out-of-bounds read in…

VMware ESXi, Workstation, and Fusion have an out-of-bounds read in the HGFS shared-folder component that leaks memory from the vmx process. An attacker who already has administrative rights inside a virtual machine can read that leaked memory, and CISA lists it as actively exploited.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

- vendor:VMware ESXi, Workstation, and Fusion affected ? fixed ?
- vendor:vmware esxi affected = 7.0 fixed ?

- vendor:vmware telco cloud platform affected = 4.0.1 fixed ?
- vendor:vmware telco cloud platform affected = 5.0 fixed ?
- vendor:vmware workstation affected >= 17.0, < 17.6.3 fixed 17.6.3

## Fix

Apply the vendor mitigations or patches per the VMware advisory; the specific fixed versions are not in the sources.
If no mitigation is available, CISA says to discontinue use of the affected product.

## From the sources

VMware ESXi, Workstation, and Fusion contain an information disclosure vulnerability due to an out-of-bounds read in HGFS. Successful exploitation allows an attacker with administrative privileges to a virtual machine to leak memory from the vmx process.

CISA required action: Apply mitigations per vendor instructions, follow applicable BOD 22-01 guidance for cloud services, or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable.
