# WordPress Perfect Images plugin lets authors replace files they do not own

The Perfect Images plugin for WordPress exposes a REST endpoint that skips a capability check, so it does not verify who is calling it. An authenticated user with Author-level access or higher can replace files that belong to other users.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check whether the Perfect Images plugin (wp-retina-2x) is installed and its version in the WordPress admin under Plugins.
- Look for the plugin directory `wp-content/plugins/wp-retina-2x/` on the server.
- Confirm whether any version up to and including `7.2.0` is in use.

## From the sources

The Perfect Images plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to unauthorized modification of data due to a missing capability check on the /wp-json/wp-retina-2x/v1/replace REST API in all versions up to, and including, 7.2.0 This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Author-level access and above, to replace files that do not belong to them.
