# Strapi through 4.5.5 allows attackers (with access to the admin panel) to discover sensitive user details by…

Strapi (Node.js headless CMS) lets users filter the users API by private fields such as password reset tokens and infer their values from response changes. The vendor says this works without authentication and can lead to admin account takeover. Chained with CVE-2023-22621 it reaches RCE. Fixed in 4.8.0. Strapi 3.x is end of life and will not be patched.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:Strapi Strapi affected ? fixed ?
- npm:@strapi/strapi affected >= 3.2.1, < 4.8.0 fixed 4.8.0
- vendor:strapi affected >= 3.2.1, < 4.8.0 fixed 4.8.0

## How to check

Run 'npm ls @strapi/strapi' or check the version in package.json. Anything below 4.8.0 is vulnerable, and that includes all 3.x.

## Fix

Upgrade @strapi/strapi to 4.8.0 or later. Strapi 3.x has no patch, so migrate to a supported 4.x. Rotate admin passwords and reset tokens if the instance was exposed.

- 2026-10-23T21:34:54+00:00 analyst — Strapi advisory GHSA-jjqf-j4w7-92w8 and vendor blog: affected >=3.2.1,<4.8.0, fixed 4.8.0. Vendor says unauthenticated (CVSS 9.x vector) via filtering on private fields; GitLab rates it 4.9 as admin-only. Researcher write-up (ghostccamm) linked as PoC, but I did not read its content. Strapi 3.x is EOL with no patch. No X posts pulled; the count was low.

## From the sources

Strapi contains a cleartext storage of sensitive information vulnerability that could allow attackers with access to the admin panel to discover sensitive user details via the query filter. The impacted product(s) could be end-of-life (EoL) and/or end-of-service (EoS). Users are advised to discontinue use and/or transition to a supported version. This vulnerability can be chained with CVE-2023-22621 to achieve remote code execution.

CISA required action: Apply mitigations in accordance with vendor instructions, ensuring compliance with CISA’s BOD 26-04 Prioritizing Security Updates Based on Risk (see URL in Notes) guidance and CISA’s “Forensics Triage Requirements” (see URL in Notes). Follow applicable BOD 26-04 guidance for cloud services or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable. Stakeholders are responsible for evaluating each asset's internet exposure and ensuring adherence to BOD 26-04 patching guidelines.
