# ChainerRL Visualizer 0.1.1 vulnerable to Path Traversal via unsafe use of send_file function

ChainerRL Visualizer 0.1.1 and earlier passes user-supplied paths to Flask's send_file without validation, allowing absolute path traversal. A remote attacker can read arbitrary files the server process can access.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- pypi:chainerrl-visualizer affected <= 0.1.1 fixed ?
- vendor:chainer chainerrl-visualizer affected <= 0.1.1 fixed ?

## How to check

- Run `pip show chainerrl-visualizer` and compare the installed version to the affected range (<= `0.1.1`)
- Check whether the visualizer web endpoints are reachable from untrusted networks

## Fix

- Upgrade `chainerrl-visualizer` past `0.1.1`; the fixed version is unknown from the sources
- If no fixed release exists, remove or restrict access to the visualizer service until patched

## Timeline

- 2026-10-27T16:20:27+00:00 ghsa https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-687h-86vc-5x59
- 2026-10-27T16:33:08+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2022-31573

## From the sources

The chainer/chainerrl-visualizer repository through 0.1.1 on GitHub allows absolute path traversal because the Flask send_file function is used unsafely.
