# Metabase is an open source data analytics platform

Metabase, an open-source business intelligence and dashboard server, has a local file inclusion flaw in its custom map GeoJSON API. An attacker can read files from the Metabase server's filesystem, which can include configuration secrets.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:Metabase Metabase affected ? fixed ?
- vendor:metabase affected = 0.40.0 fixed ?
- vendor:metabase affected = 0.40.1 fixed ?
- vendor:metabase affected = 0.40.2 fixed ?
- vendor:metabase affected = 0.40.3 fixed ?
- vendor:metabase affected = 0.40.4 fixed ?
- vendor:metabase affected = 1.40.0 fixed ?
- vendor:metabase affected = 1.40.1 fixed ?
- vendor:metabase affected = 1.40.2 fixed ?
- vendor:metabase affected = 1.40.3 fixed ?
- vendor:metabase affected = 1.40.4 fixed ?

## Fix

Upgrade Metabase to a fixed release per the vendor advisory; the sources do not name the fixed version.
If no fix is available, discontinue use of the product or apply vendor mitigations, per CISA guidance.

## From the sources

Metabase is an open source data analytics platform. In affected versions a security issue has been discovered with the custom GeoJSON map (`admin->settings->maps->custom maps->add a map`) support and potential local file inclusion (including environment variables). URLs were not validated prior to being loaded. This issue is fixed in a new maintenance release (0.40.5 and 1.40.5), and any subsequent release after that. If you’re unable to upgrade immediately, you can mitigate this by including rules in your reverse proxy or load balancer or WAF to provide a validation filter before the application.
