{"id":"CVE-2021-41277","kind":"vulnerability","aliases":["CVE-2021-41277"],"related":[],"title":"Metabase is an open source data analytics platform","description":"Metabase is an open source data analytics platform. In affected versions a security issue has been discovered with the custom GeoJSON map (`admin->settings->maps->custom maps->add a map`) support and potential local file inclusion (including environment variables). URLs were not validated prior to being loaded. This issue is fixed in a new maintenance release (0.40.5 and 1.40.5), and any subsequent release after that. If you’re unable to upgrade immediately, you can mitigate this by including rules in your reverse proxy or load balancer or WAF to provide a validation filter before the application.","summary":"Metabase, an open-source business intelligence and dashboard server, has a local file inclusion flaw in its custom map GeoJSON API. An attacker can read files from the Metabase server's filesystem, which can include configuration secrets.","severity":"critical","cvss":10.0,"epss":null,"exploited":true,"exploited_at":"2024-11-12T00:00:00+00:00","products":[{"name":"Metabase Metabase","fixed":[],"affected":"","ecosystem":"vendor"},{"name":"metabase","fixed":[],"affected":"= 0.40.0","ecosystem":"vendor"},{"name":"metabase","fixed":[],"affected":"= 0.40.1","ecosystem":"vendor"},{"name":"metabase","fixed":[],"affected":"= 0.40.2","ecosystem":"vendor"},{"name":"metabase","fixed":[],"affected":"= 0.40.3","ecosystem":"vendor"},{"name":"metabase","fixed":[],"affected":"= 0.40.4","ecosystem":"vendor"},{"name":"metabase","fixed":[],"affected":"= 1.40.0","ecosystem":"vendor"},{"name":"metabase","fixed":[],"affected":"= 1.40.1","ecosystem":"vendor"},{"name":"metabase","fixed":[],"affected":"= 1.40.2","ecosystem":"vendor"},{"name":"metabase","fixed":[],"affected":"= 1.40.3","ecosystem":"vendor"},{"name":"metabase","fixed":[],"affected":"= 1.40.4","ecosystem":"vendor"}],"ecosystems":["vendor"],"tags":["exploited","metabase","package","self-hosted"],"not_affected_if":["custom-maps-unused","managed-hosting"],"how_to_check":null,"fix":"Upgrade Metabase to a fixed release per the vendor advisory; the sources do not name the fixed version.\nIf no fix is available, discontinue use of the product or apply vendor mitigations, per CISA guidance.","status":"open","published_at":"2021-11-17T20:15:10+00:00","first_seen_at":"2026-10-23T19:11:51+00:00","triaged_at":"2026-10-23T20:56:16+00:00","updated_at":"2026-10-23T22:29:05+00:00","category":"package","confidence":0.6,"triage":{"at":"2026-10-23T20:56:16Z","model":"claude-haiku-5-5","output":{"fix":"Upgrade Metabase to a fixed release per the vendor advisory; the sources do not name the fixed version.\nIf no fix is available, discontinue use of the product or apply vendor mitigations, per CISA guidance.","reach":"internet","impact":"high","summary":"Metabase, an open-source business intelligence and dashboard server, has a local file inclusion flaw in its custom map GeoJSON API.
