# Incorrect handling of complex species in V8 in Google Chrome prior to 57.0.2987.98 for Linux, Windows, and Mac and…

A memory corruption bug in the V8 JavaScript engine used by Chromium lets a remote attacker run code by getting a victim to open a crafted HTML page. The same flaw reaches browsers built on Chromium, such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Opera.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:Google Chromium V8 affected ? fixed ?
- vendor:google chrome affected < 57.0.2987.98 fixed 57.0.2987.98
- vendor:google chrome affected < 57.0.2987.108 fixed 57.0.2987.108
- vendor:debian linux affected = 8.0 fixed ?
- vendor:debian linux affected = 9.0 fixed ?
- vendor:redhat enterprise linux desktop affected = 6.0 fixed ?
- vendor:redhat enterprise linux server affected = 6.0 fixed ?
- vendor:redhat enterprise linux workstation affected = 6.0 fixed ?

## How to check

Open the browser's version page (chrome://version in Chrome or Edge) and compare against the fixed release in the vendor advisory.

## Fix

Update the browser to a release the vendor shipped after the 2017 fix; CISA says to apply vendor updates.

## From the sources

Google Chromium V8 Engine contains a memory corruption vulnerability that allows a remote attacker to execute code via a crafted HTML page. This vulnerability could affect multiple web browsers that utilize Chromium, including, but not limited to, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Opera.

CISA required action: Apply updates per vendor instructions.
