# Oracle Java Runtime Environment (JRE): Oracle JRE Unspecified Vulnerability

An unspecified flaw in the HotSpot component of Oracle's Java Runtime Environment lets a remote attacker affect data integrity. CISA lists it as actively exploited in the wild.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:Oracle Java Runtime Environment (JRE) affected ? fixed ?

## How to check

Run 'java -version' on each host and compare against the Oracle Java release that includes the fix; unknown which exact versions are affected from the sources.

## Fix

Update Oracle JRE to a release that includes the vendor's fix for CVE-2013-2423, per Oracle's advisory; exact fixed version unknown from the sources.

## From the sources

Unspecified vulnerability in the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) component in Oracle Java SE 7 Update 17 and earlier, and OpenJDK 7, allows remote attackers to affect integrity via unknown vectors related to HotSpot. NOTE: the previous information is from the April 2013 CPU. Oracle has not commented on claims from the original researcher that this vulnerability allows remote attackers to bypass permission checks by the MethodHandles method and modify arbitrary public final fields using reflection and type confusion, as demonstrated using integer and double fields to disable the security manager.
